FAQs
The chances are that most organisations taking part in the Scotland’s Best Workplaces Programme will have a few questions to ask. Here we bring you the questions and answers that most frequently crop up:
1. What is the minimum response rate for organisations?
For accurate statistical analysis we require a larger proportion of employees to be surveyed in a small organisation. This can be as high as 84% for organisations with 50 employees. For organisations with more than 300 employees, we require a minimum response rate of 40%.2. What are the accuracy levels of the surveys?
Our minimum required response rates are based on a minimum desired confidence level of 90% and a margin of error of +/-5%. This means that if you were to conduct the same survey 100 times, the results would be within +/- 5% of the first time you ran the survey 90 times out of 100.3. Can we have additional questionnaires for all our employees?
If you wish to survey the whole of your staff, rather than just our chosen sample, please contact the GPTW team. Additional survey requirements can be provided at an additional cost.4. Who is valid as an employee?
Typically, temporary, contractual, seasonal workers and interns do not take part, only permanent, full and part-time employees.5. What about employees who have only recently joined the organisation?
An employee’s experience of a workplace begins on their first day with a organisation. There is no restriction made on the length of service.6. How do you ensure that organisations do not hand out questionnaires to the most satisfied employees only?
The GPTW randomly selects employees so that we have greater control over the accuracy of results. In addition, 10% of organisations are audited at random.7. Do management and the CEO take part in the employee survey?
Yes, if you are surveying the whole organisation or they happen to be randomly selected.8. Which other countries have conducted similar surveys?
GPTW is now present globally in 45 countries in Europe, the US, Latin America and Asia.9. Will others find out if we do not make the rankings list?
GPTW does not publicise those companies who participated in the process but did not make the list. There will only be positive recognition for your organisation.10. How will GPTW handle our data?
GPTW is bound by the Data Protection Act and will not supply any third party not connected with the project with any information supplied without consent. GPTW may publish reports, citing examples of an organisation's best practice submitted through the selection process. GPTW will never reveal your participation if your organisation does not make the list. For further information about us and our approach please see our main UK corporate website
