Sep 21st 2010: The Challenge for Leadership: Building High Trust
How Best Workplaces outperform their peers

The development of cultural competencies on leaders has become one of the most challenging issues in today's business world. For the GPTW , it is essential that leaders develop nine cultural competencies within organisations: Hiring and Welcoming, Speaking, Listening, Inspiring, Thanking, Developing, Caring, Celebrating and Sharing (see our methodology).
A recent study from GPTW Mexico indicates that in the environment of a ‘great place to work’there is greater appreciation and frequent recognition from leaders to their team members, for their good performance and extra efforts. Also, the companies of the ‘Best Companies to Work® lists’ present higher rates in the Celebrating and Hiring and Welcoming competencies. High levels in the Celebrating competency reflects the importance that leaders give to the celebrations of personal achievements and organisation’s successes, which in return generates an atmosphere of camaraderie and a sense of membership on workers, while high levels on the Hiring/Welcoming competency refers to the efforts of the leaders to assure that the new members of the organisation fit properly into the organisational culture.
The study also shows that the rates of the nine culture competencies vary according to organisation size and industry sector (public versus private). For more information, please click on the link below.
